DISASTER RELEIF FUND

On August 16th 2018, severe floods affected the South Indian state, Kerala. Due to the unusually high rainfall during the Monsoon season. It was the worst flood in Kerala nearly a century. Kerala received heavy monsoon rainfall which was about 116% more than the usual rainfall in Kerala on the midevening of 8 August, resulting in dams filling to their maximum capacities. Over 483 people died about a million people were evacuated from many districts. Almost all districts were placed on red alert. According to the Kerala Government one sixth of the total population of Kerala had been directly affected by the flood and related incidents. The Kerala state Disaster Management Authority has placed the state in a red alert as a result of the intense flooding. It is estimated that 12, 47,496 people have found shelter in relief camps. The flooding has destroyed hundreds of villages an estimation of 10,000 km of roads and thousands of homes damaged and completely wrecked. Rescue operations were done at Government level, operation by public, fisherman. Thus the Govt. of Kerala started a donation website for the flood victims. Several people from across the country have come forward during the time of calamity to help the Kerala residents who are trying to rebuild their lives. The help has come in all forms- food, medicines, clothes and many. So many donations and helping hands were there to provide for the well-being of the affected Keralites. The Ashram trust shared their part of the contribution to the CM’s Disaster Relief Fund.

2020 Plastic Distribution

In January 1st 2020, The Plastic covers where banned in Kerala. The plastic that has been generated around 45000 tonnes of waste per year. That was very difficult to dispose. In the same year, the old plastics were collected by the Ashram and they provided with the eco-friendly one without any cost for the public. It was done with the alliance of Government of Kerala.
