The Great Transition

(Swami's Words)

When I was 30 years old , I accompanied my sister-in-law to meet an astrologer, despite I have a rational mind. Strangely, he told me that I was redeemed to life by Subhananda Gurudevan, when I was nine years old. Then he paused… I got up ……. ……..“thank you for your nice words ….. good bye …. I am leaving.”………..
I did not believe that and got up and said …….
……. thank you for your nice words ….. good bye …. I am leaving…….
Why? He paused.
I replied “you are patently wrong, I was 22 years old when I first heard about Subhananda Gurudevan”.
He prompted me to sit down and continued …….
“at the age of nine, following a fight with the parents, you decided to leave the native place and walked out of the house”.
I was convinced and spell bound.
On leaving home, I reached the banks of a stream and sat staring at the glittering fishes. An old man, clad in saffron, appeared, pacing to and fro in front of me.

Being born in the Ezhava community, I surmised that he could be the legendary Sree Nararayana Guru. This incident that occurred when I was a child is still afresh in my memory. I realized that the divine soul, that was revealed to me, as Subhananda Gurudevan, only when the astrologer described what happened in my childhood at the banks of the stream. I joined the Subhananda Community at the age of 22.
Nine years after marriage, mother of my children, went to the rubber plantation. That was her first day of work. As she was clearing the grass, called out that something has bitten her hand. As she tried to make it out, the majestic cobra plunged its fangs and coiled around her hand. As she screamed out and shrug off her hand in horror, the snake that was dislodged stood up on its tail, in an attempt to charge again. Other workers immediately bandaged the wound and she was given green berries of black pepper. As she chew the berries, they tasted sweet instead of being pungent. She fell unconscious and was rushed to the hospital. She laid breathless. I cried and prayed aloud, self-inflicting blows on my chest. The doctor, unable to see my plight , turned away his face, glancing over the body. He sensed a movement on her body and asked me to beat her. My blows on her shoulder brought her back to consciousness.
It was 8.35 in the morning. At the same time, about 150 m away, a coconut climber fell off the tree and lost his life. I was told at the Cheruvarasram that a death was inevitable at that moment. However, as another individual lost his life, she was spared.
After regaining consciousness, she described her meeting with death. As she flew off, her body became invisible. She joined her grandparents deceased long ago. As she is traveling with them, she heard a loud voice, asking her to stop. ….

The symbol of vision fell on her face. Once the vision vanished, she saw Subhanda Gurudevan , briefly for a while, in the garb of the doctor. Then she saw the first seer of anand, Anandaji Gurudevan as the envoy of Subhananda Gurudevan. Anandaji Gurudevan vanished and Subhananda Gurudevan appeared again and told …. “I am resuscitating you …… I am redeeming you.” It was exactly at this time that the doctor told me that her hand is moving.

Suddenly she saw the bright visual symbol of Gurudevan, the divine meaning of the symbol that I saw at the age of nine, that came to my soul : the conch shell, divine wheel, solar eclipse, triangular stars ……. everything going deep into the heart of God.
“I am resuscitating you …… I am redeeming you.”
It was exactly at this time that the doctor told me that her hand is moving.
Through this incident, I came to know who and what is Subhananda Gurudevan. As he gave back the mother of my children, I wandered a lot to know more and more about Him. I met a few contemporaries of Subhananda Gurudevan and reached Ambalappara, now called “Tapopuri”, where Subhananda Gurudevan meditated. I prayed that I want to come back to this place accompanied by a lot of devotees, and returned. I formed a prayer community as suggested by the mother of the Kochupurackal Asram, established at the birth place of Gurudevan. After one year, I went to Tapopuri with a lot of devotees, carrying the symbolic holy twin-bag on head. The holy mother designated me as the head of the prayer community, began with four families, including mine.. Thus for about 15 years, I donned the white garb of it’s Chief Mentor. In 2001, the community was officially registered and was converted into a trust in 2009.
Over the years, many devotees joined the community. The ashram here is a product of the toil of devotees and no money was collected for its construction. I submitted totally in the service of Subhananda Gurudevan. I saw people struggling to make the ends meet, fighting each other on caste basis and religious conversions for a morsel of food. However, I was told by Gurudevan that all my sorrows are due to ignorance.
The teachings of Gurudevan were professed to all those who are suffering, to impart a renewed confidence to re-dedicate themselves. As a mere instrument of Gurudeva, I reached a state of seamless love, where caste, color or class never mattered. A relationship wherein all are mine, or everything is me or us. Those who have become slaves of the Five Great Sins.

  • alcoholism
  • prostitution
  • self-adoration
  • idol worship
  • and harassing the other

– were taught the principles of Gurudevan. They were advised to abhor the Five Great Sins and lead family life for four days followed by ascetic life for three days in the ashram. In idol worship,it doesnot mean the idol worship of temples...The human body is considered to be made of the five elements, Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Akasha or Space. These elements have different characteristics and these also account for different faculties of human experience. A life of worship based on the thought that I am great, that I am the best of all, that I am capable of everything...
These were led to sing the hymns of Gurudevan and its meaning with interpretation was taught. I could impart a sense in them that they are here from God and their mission is to carry out the will of the God. As a result of the virtues performed, at the final moment, they will dissolve into the God. Our body is nature, everything is us and we are filled with the God. Almighty has taught us that if we cannot see the God in front of us, then He cannot be seen anywhere else. Those who are enslaved to sorcery and occultism have to be redeemed in the name of Gurudevan and united spiritually. Hence I have denounced everything mine, including family ties, and chosen the path of asceticism.

I have been treading the path of asceticism for the past 21 years with the conviction that EVERYTHING IS MINE AND I BELONG TO EVERYONE. I could carry out an array of acts of charity. It became clear to me that when the material needs are fulfilled, people will orient themselves more towards spirituality. I tread the spiritual and materialistic path led by Gurudevan, as our life is meant for that.
I wish to continue to serve humanity as desired by Gurudevan and hence accepted asceticism to unite the people based on singular spirituality. As taught by Gurudevan, and desired by the God, all need to be uplifted to the unified spirituality.
